Our next webinar in the Contingency Planning Network will focus on Foot-and-Mouth Disease in wildlife. The following topics will be covered by the two presenters:

  • FMD susceptible wildlife species in Europe and clinical signs;
  • Sampling methods in wildlife;
  • Hunting and biosecurity;
  • FMD Contingency planning for wildlife.


Speakers

Tsviatko Alexandrov is a veterinarian, working for the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency. Over the past ten years he has gained in depth experience on control and eradication of several Transboundary Animal Disease (TADs) occurring in Bulgaria, including: FMD (2011), Classical Swine Fever, Bluetongue (2014) and Lumpy Skin Disease (2016). In 2011 he worked as a short term professional (STP) at EuFMD and was involved in numerous FAO projects, He has defended his PhD in 2014, on Classical Swine Fever and FMD epidemiology. Dr Alexandrov will be focusing on the topics on FMD susceptible wildlife species and sampling methods.

Marius Masiulis is a veterinarian, who has worked for over 10 years in the State Food and Veterinary Service of Lithuania with animal contagious diseases in farmed animals and wildlife. In 2009 and 2011 he was involved in the Classical Swine Fever outbreak eradication. In 2012 and 2013 he worked in the FMD real time training. Since 2014, when African Swine Fever was confirmed for the first time in Lithuania in wild boar, he coordinates the surveillance, control and eradication this disease in domestic pigs and wild boars. Dr Masiulis will be focusing on hunting and biosecurity topics as well as contingency planning for FMD in wildlife.
