Are you a veterinarian from Asia and interested in learning how to investigate and control outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD)?

The FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific and the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease invite you to take part in the upcoming FMD Investigation Training Course for Asia.

The online course involves twelve hours of interactive virtual learning content studied over a four-week period, with a mix of live webinars and self-directed online modules. The course will begin on 8th July 2021.

The course will be tutored by international and regional FMD experts and provides a unique opportunity to discuss all aspects of FMD outbreak investigation with colleagues from around the region.




Who is the course for?

This course is designed for veterinarians in FMD affected countries in Asia. It is suitable for those involved in diagnosing and investigating FMD outbreaks, particularly from field or regional levels, but is also open to veterinarians from national laboratories and central veterinary services.

 What does the course cover?

  • FMD aetiology and pathogenesis.
  • Clinical diagnosis, lesion ageing.
  • FMD epidemiology, outbreak investigation.
  • Biosecurity.
  • Vaccines and vaccination for FMD.
  • Introduction to the Progressive Control Pathway.
  • The course will also equip you with tools and resources to pass on your learning to colleagues and livestock industry stakeholders.

How to apply

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis, with a quota system applied to ensure even participation from countries across Asia. To apply to join the course, please complete the form below. 

To participate in this course you should be available to study for twelve hours over a four week period starting from the 8th July 2021. You should be able to study in English.

Applications must be received by 1st July 2021. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application after this date.
