The European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, invites veterinarians based in East Africa to join the online Foot-and-Mouth Disease Investigation Training Course in English  which will take place in November 2018. This is a unique opportunity to network with international colleagues and FMD experts, while studying at a time and place that suits you.  

Who is the course for?

Veterinarians who are involved in diagnosing and investigating outbreaks of FMD. The course is suitable for veterinarians working at field or regional level, but will also be interesting for staff in central veterinary services.

  • FMD aetiology and pathogenesis
  • Clinical diagnosis, lesion ageing
  • FMD epidemiology, outbreak investigation
  • Biosecurity
  • Vaccines and vaccination for FMD
  • Introduction to the Progressive Control Pathway

For those participants who have difficulty in connecting to the internet, training modules are available for download, and, in addition, you will be able to connect using a mobile telephone to share the training materials and discuss with your colleagues.


How to enrol

Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis to veterinarians from countries in East Africa.  Please note the course is entirely in English. Participation in the course is free of charge.

Please note that Chief Veterinary Officers from East African countries have also been invited to nominate participants. If you have already been invited by your Chief Veterinary Officer, you do not need to also email us to ask to participate. Those who are not successful in gaining a place on the current course will be placed on a waiting list for future courses.
